Tim Burton Style Analysis Essay
Tim Burton was known for his dark and mischievous personality; a likeness he shares with Roald Dahl.
This quality is reflected in his films, that tiny coil of despair that is eventually decimated by that extension of
unconditional love. Tim Burton loved Dr. Seuss’s tales as a child, believing them to be “A perfect blend of
subversive storytelling, with a playful, innocent use of rhythm and rhyme.

” He also had a talent for bringing
out the more grotesque elements of our beloved children’s tales. Burton uses cinematic techniques such as
lighting and sound in his films,
“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,”
“Edward Scissorhands,”
and
“Corpse
Bride,”
giving them a haunting feeling that resonates with audiences.
To start off, Tim Burton’s use of lighting is often dark and exaggerated, leaving the tone to be
immediately clear. An example of this is shown in
“Corpse Bride,”
