Hi Fellow Forumers,

I have been working for approximately 5 years now, and I’m thinking about going back to school to get an MBA. I’m working in Singapore, so I’ll most likely study for my MBA here as well.

I just want to get your feedback on an MBA program that I’ve been considering – SMU MBA. The length and format of the program is quite suitable for me.

What do you think about the program? I’ve been looking high and low for some kind of ranking for the school, but I couldn’t find any, except on a list on this site – http://www.coursesinsg.com/2012/06/top-mbas-in-singapore.html .

Are there any SMU MBA graduates here? Could you share with me your experience in the program, and how well you’re doing after graduation?

I appreciate your time, thanks!

Hi Haley. This is a forum for applicants, so not many alumni come here. The SMU MBA is very good, but it’s too young to be on any rankings. It’s one of the few one year MBAs with internship opportunities, so that’s very good.

I think it’s an up-and-coming school. I know they have some good placements with some Singapore-based financial services firms – but there are far more grads from NUS/Nanyang/INSEAD in financial services, just because these programs have been around for longer.

But SMU is starting to have some good traction in consulting and marketing firms as well.

Hey – did you choose to do the MBA at SMU in the end? I would be curious to hear about your experience (or if you went somewhere else, why.)

Hi,

My work ex is as follows:

Qualification – Chartered Accountant

Wish to apply for the MBA program at NUS and SMU. Not sure which school will do better justice to my profile. Also want to know how are the job opportunities after passing out of these schools. Please advise. Thanks

As the average work experience for cohorts going into both of these MBA programs tends to be much higher than what you have (5 or 6 years), I am not sure you are competitive at either. Maybe if you were able to get your GMAT up much, much higher (760+) and had something else unique about your profile, then you’d have a chance. Otherwise, if you are truly interested in these schools, you should take another couple years to get some more work experience.

IE Business School’s International MBA program holds the No. 3 position worldwide among one-year programs in the non-US business school category of the latest ranking published by Forbes.

The biennial ranking evaluates the return on investment of students who completed their MBA five years ago at business schools around the world. This recognition further consolidates IE’s position among the world’s leading business schools. IE Business School has been ranked the top business school in the world for the fourth consecutive year in the 2017 ranking of Online MBA programs carried out by Financial Times.

Forbes includes three categories in the ranking: MBA programs run by US schools, one-year MBA programs at schools based outside the US, and two-year programs at non-US schools. IE Business School holds the No. 1 position in Spain and is No. 3 in the one-year programs outside the US. The ranking is based on the time needed to recuperate the investment made in the MBA, coupled with the graduates’ salary progression over the last 5 years.

“Our MBA is unique because our students can customize their total learning journey by choosing from multiple options directly related to their career goals: Do they want to become an entrepreneurial “creator”, a “business transformer” creating real corporate impact, or a “technology disruptor” as part of a new technology track – the program’s latest novelty.” says Erik Schlie, Vice-Dean of the International MBA at IE Business School.  “While in Madrid, IE MBAs experience an out-of-the-ordinary year, with the most international professors and classmates, opportunities to visit institutions and companies on different continents, experience entrepreneurial hubs, or take part in social impact initiatives. It is beyond any doubt a mind-opening program packed with intensity and tremendous rewards.”

IE Business School’s  International MBA  has a student body comprised of 92% international students. This year’s intake has students from 74 countries with an average of six years relevant work experience. In addition to the Creators, Transformers, and Technology Disruptors tracks, students can choose from among more than 150 elective courses to further personalize the learning experience, as well as undertake consulting projects or work on social initiatives in South Africa, Ethiopia, Peru or Brazil.

IE Business School International MBA students can participate in the Post-MBA Long Exchange Program, a three-month exchange program which permits them to choose a destination from among 58 partner schools around the world, including Chicago Booth (US), NYU Stern (US), GIBS-Gordon Institute of Business Science (South Africa), London Business School (UK), and Tsinghua (China). They also have the opportunity to further extend their networks at the Global Network Week, travel with IE’s Venture Lab initiative to examine entrepreneurial ecosystems  in other countries, or present their own business projects at Venture Day events held by IE in cities that include Shanghai, Sao Paulo, Mexico D.F., Providence, Berlin, Tokyo and Lisbon. The program offers a total of 66 international destinations to further enrich the MBA experience.

IE Business School has an extensive management education portfolio including part-time programs like the School’s Global MBA, and the IE-SMU MBA run in collaboration with Singapore Management University and focused on economic and business realities in the Asia-Pacific region. IE’s Executive MBA, run in Spanish and in English, offers both face-to-face and blended formats, and runs for between 10 and 15 months. The School also runs a Global Executive MBA aimed at senior executives, and which combines onsite sessions run in Spain, Singapore, Brazil and the US, with online modules. IE also runs the IE/Brown Executive MBA jointly with Ivy League member Brown University in the US. The IE Brown Executive MBA combines online periods with onsite learning at IE’s campus in Madrid, Brown’s campus in Providence (US) and in Cape Town (South Africa).
