Dear Sir or Madam:

I am excited to be applying
for the position of Academic Advisor for the Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office at
The University of Alabama. Currently I serve as an Administrative Office
Assistant to the Associate Dean’s Office of the College of Architecture, Arts
and Humanities at Clemson University and I am scheduled to graduate in
December, 2008. I believe my unique blend of professional and personal experience
and skills has prepared me to be an ideal candidate for this position as well
as an asset to your team. I have enclosed my resume and a list of references to
provide an overview of my academic achievements and relevant work experience.

From my own experiences, I
know that the transition to a university setting is one not to be taken
lightly. I have a desire to guide and counsel students in their search for a
major that suits their interests, passions, and abilities, help them adjust to
and successfully handle the workload of college courses, and push them toward
their future goals, whether it be graduate school or finding an occupation. I
would be privileged to work with students, providing them guidance and
assistance through their academic studies to help them meet their career goals
and fulfill their degree requirements. I will bring passion, dedication, and
encouragement to this position, committing to the welfare of students, aiding them
through their time at the University of Alabama. I know first hand what it is
like to be an undergraduate student and need the priceless support of a caring,
knowledgeable advisor.

My complete work history
emphasizes computer literacy, specifically with Microsoft Word and Excel for
word processing and database/spreadsheet management, was essential, and has
provided me with the skills necessary for this position. As an Administrative
Office Assistant I have communicated with diverse populations including employers,
co-workers, customers, and fellow students in a professional university work
environment. Because of my participation in Creative Inquiry Research teams and
completing a degree in psychology, my analytical and problem solving skills are
highly developed. My administrative and professional work experience at Clemson
University has given me an understanding of the importance and value of
policies and procedures, and I am confident in my ability to assess, enforce,
and abide to those specific to academic advising. I am certain that my strong
communication skills, organizational ability, and heart for students would
allow me to carry out this job successfully.

Nothing would please me more
than to work for the University of Alabama. I have enjoyed working in a
university setting and gaining knowledge about all that goes into making a
major university the best for its students. I am impressed by what I have seen
of The University of Alabama and its focus on its students. My fiancé, Lance
Haynie, just started at The University of Alabama as Program Coordinator of the
Outdoor Recreation Program. He has described the university as a close-knit
community, fostering the growth and success of its students and pushing them to
be the best prepared-whether it be for graduate school or an occupation. I would
be honored to work with such a group of people.

I
am currently a student at Clemson University with plans to graduate this
December and move immediately to Tuscaloosa following my wedding in December. Thank
you for your time and consideration of me for this position. I look forward to
hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Catherine Cain
